As noted recently in The Houston Chronicle, McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc., (MHI) has purchased a 563-acre tract of land in Fort Bend County. MHI invited David Weekley Homes to join in the development as a partner. Located on the south side of FM 1093, the property formerly known as Grand Mission will be a master-planned community with over 1,500 homes when fully developed.
“This partnership makes sense since we’re two of the nation’s largest privately held homebuilding companies and we have similar business philosophies,” according to Jim Zimmermann, General Manager of Land for MHI.

MHI and David Weekley Homes will use lots for their own building programs. Other builders may be invited to participate once the initial planning is completed.
Home sales are expected to begin in 2003, according to Zimmermann. “Land planning and pre-development work has begun,” Zimmermann says.
“We’re still in the early stages so the exact types and price range of homes have yet to be determined. It is also likely that the community will be marketed under a different name.”
This area has proven to be popular for Houstonians working in the Energy Corridor on the west side of town. The upcoming Westpark Tollway, an east-west roadway linking the Grand Parkway to the Galleria area, will provide even greater access to major employers and area amenities for residents.
The development arm of MHI is working on several projects in the Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio areas. MHI is projected to close over 2,500 homes this year and is continually looking for opportunities to purchase and develop home sites for its signature brands Pioneer Homes, Plantation Homes and Coventry Homes.
